My daughter in law has been in pain for the last 5 years. She has been to the hospitals and so many doctors and they all say something different. Now the latest doctor says it is fibromyalgia. Two weeks ago another doctor said it is MS, before that it was a pinched nerve in the neck, before that a break in the spine. We are at a loss, she is in so much pain all the time she can't get out of bed some days. The pain seems to be only on the left side of the body and everything I can find on fibromyalgia says the whole body would be effected. Does anyone know what kind of doctor she should go to with all the tests she has had done.

A rheumatologist is good if the diagnosis is confirmed as fibromyalgia. Otherwise, she is probably better seeing a neurologist who can make the proper differential diagnoses.

FMS has a list of symptoms which present, some of them which *must* be present for a confirmed diagnosis. The pain travels, but if it's not at least in two different quadrants of her body, it probably isn't FMS.

If it were me, I'd take whichever diagnosis led to treatment for the pain, and then consider additional opinions as to the etiology.
