I am kind of feeling sorry for the snake.
I like snakes; although, I don't really care for their eating habits.

I have mixed feelings about snakes too.
They are sort of slimy creatures and someone told me that certain varieties give off unpleasant odors. Also the way they slither around sends chills up my spine.
I remember watching the movie The Thin Red Line where all these american soldiers were pinned down by Japanese machine gun fire in a grassy field area. This big black snake slithered up to one of the soldiers as if to say : What's goin on sarge?".
Imagine fighting an enemy and having to wrestle with a wild animal while your at it ?
If you like war movies The Thin Red Line is a classic.

Dang, I was rooting for the snake ! This is kind of why I'm not fond of cats; they like to kill things - snakes, birds, lizards, etc, etc.

They are more evenly matched than you might think. The birds can fly away, the squirrels have claws and know how to use them, snakes bite. Plus they all can be pests in their own right. It all depends upon your perspective.
Personally I was fine with that little battle until the cat took the snake into the garage. That battle wasn't over yet and the last thing anybody needs is a wounded snake in their garage.
