Healthcare Overhaul Is Quietly Underway

Here's a story about proposed changes to the healthcare system:

The last part of the story, in particular, is directly related to the service we are trying to provide with RateMDs.com:

"(Gingrich's) vision of an empowered patient calling the shots may stand little chance without a new information infrastructure.

Gingrich acknowledged: "You can't have an informed marketplace in a setting where you don't have any information." "

Hopefully, our visitors and this website will be able to help provide this needed information.

I just attended the World Healthcare Congress and all the talk was about consumer directed healthcare and the need for better information for consumers on price and quality. Most of the initiatives underway in the industry, though, are to rate whole hospitals or networks based on numbers of procedures and their outcomes. What patients really need to make better decisions is insight into individual doctors - RateMDs.

After that, maybe we'll need PriceMDs to figure out what they're charging for services.

Good point, healthanalyst. We're going to be adding at least one field where raters can say how much they paid for the doctor's services.
